It’s easy to doubt right now. Events of the world, catastrophic storms, even the difficulty of everyday life make it easy to shake your head and wonder why everything is crumbling around you. This is when we need to continue to go to the Lord in prayer, in thanksgiving (yes, gratitude even through the mess – it’s hard!), and with belief.
But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. ~James 1:6 (NIV)

But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. (NLT)
But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. (ESV)
I don’t know about you, but I get tired of being tossed about by the wind – by circumstances, and constantly being in react mode, instead of being proactive. Yet I can be proactive with my faith. With my belief in God. Again, there are days when it’s very, very difficult to not turn to God in anger, in frustration, and in despair.

This is where faith comes in. We must stay prayerful, in the Word, in constant conversation with God – and yes, you can be angry at God in conversation/prayer. But stay in touch. You will find the peace that only God can give. You will stand on the firm foundation of His love and better plans for us (truly!) rather than standing on the shifting sands of the world. Is this easy to do? No. But it’s the best thing to do.
When we pray, let us pray with belief, hope, confidence, and no doubt. Let’s quit being tossed about and stand with Christ.
