Over this past weekend, I posted a quote attributed to Corrie Ten Boom that said, in part, “Worrying doesn’t empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength.”

Over this same weekend, I was filled with worry about something, and yet I didn’t take my own advice or more accurately, the advice I posted.

Isn’t that typical? We are good at encouraging others, but not ourselves. We don’t take the same advice we give.

Yesterday, as I was struggling with some concerns and worries that I have, I was going back to my recent Scripture reading about peace, trying to reclaim the peace that I know I have. If you read those recent blog posts, you’ll see my peace journey.

As I was grappling with my worries, two words popped into my head while I was praying: “But God.”

Whenever we feel like we’ve come across a brick wall, we need to remember that God can get us past that obstacle.

When I run across the barrier of fear or doubt, or my days are filled with worries about the future, I can say, “But God.” But God can change everything. But God can heal the sick. But God can help us pay another bill. But God can bring the people into our path that will guide us and help us and strengthen us.

Now, I want to keep that focus and not worry about the future. I want to claim the joy of today. To have the strength for today alone. I want to reclaim the peace that I know I have.

I need to remind myself every time I start to worry to say, “But God. But God can handle this one.”

I hope this encourages you today, and let’s encourage one another.
